Born in 2012 from a call for community innovators to present solutions to repurpose vacant lots, PlayBuild transforms urban spaces into dynamic play and learning environments to empower kids to design their futures. The organization’s first play space - at 2828 Thalia Street - broke ground in 2013 through the efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers, and was completed in 2015 through the generosity of a consortium of local construction partners led by Palmisano Contractors. With a focus on learning through play, PlayBuild engages 4-12 year olds in low income communities in learning about design, architecture, engineering, and urban planning with construction and building toys, and art-based craft activities. Over the past 8 years, organized and led by an all-volunteer effort, over 6,000 New Orleans kids have taken part in PlayBuild’s programs.
Please support PlayBuild’s 2020 Vision - a campaign to expand PlayBuild’s capacity by building new spaces and establishing a dedicated full-time team to drive the organization’s growth. All proceeds from the sale of Screens for Good shirts and totes will be dedicated to PlayBuild's 2020 Vision Fund.
