Fritai Tote

$15.00

Charly, chef and owner of Fritai, grew up in Boston with a father who was a skilled chef for the Marriott Hotel Group and a mother with a passion for her Haitian roots. At 5 years old Charly was cooking in the kitchen beside his parents and by high school was enrolled in a Culinary Arts program working at a local Italian restaurant at night. Before college Charly competed in a state-wide cooking competition where he was awarded second place and a “half-ride” scholarship to Southern New Hampshire University where he took his first of many trips to New Orleans.

After graduating in Restaurant Management Charly worked in a few more restaurants back in Boston refining his serving and managing skills in 5-star restaurants. In 2015 Charly moved to New Orleans with his girlfriend and business partner Minerva. The couple wanted a change of pace as they were both working mornings and nights at multiple restaurants in the French Quarter, so they began cooking their quintessential Haitian cuisine at their first stall in the St. Roch Market. At this stall Charly started a name for himself winning Food Network’s Chopped,  2017 Zagat 30 under 30, and Eater Youngunz (top 15 national).

Charly is a light for the community speaking to youth, hosting “Culture Talks” focussing on gender rights and equality, and even taking part in food demonstrations to further teach his Haitian culture.
