YEP, You Right

$25.00

Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) was founded in 2004 by three juvenile justice advocates to support formerly incarcerated young people as they transitioned back into their communities. It was the first program of its kind in the state of Louisiana. Since then, YEP has expanded to provide mentoring, education, employment readiness, and enrichment programming. Our core purpose is to empower young people to improve their lives and the lives of others. YEP programming operates out of 6 different program sites, 3 in Central City, 1 in Algiers, 1 in Mid-City and another in St. Charles Parish - serving young people across the greater New Orleans Area.

YEP does have a unique approach to the mentorship that we offer to young people by providing holistic and individualized case management services in addition to relationship-based mentoring services.  The staff who provide these youth advocacy services not only prioritize building close and trusting relationships with young people, but are also able to help provide participants with the support needed to navigate systems and access essential services. YEP participants receive youth advocacy and are paired with an adult youth advocate and mentor who is trained to provide supportive services, assistance with basic needs, and individualized goal setting. Youth advocates also act as liaisons with family members, teachers, and other adults in a young person's life.

YEP is an organization founded on the principle of caring for one another, so relationships are at the heart of everything that we do.  The strength of our work is grounded in our ability to build strong relationships with young people, their families, and the community. And we have a very passionate and committed staff that make this relationship based approach come to fruition.

We anticipate a long and uneven road to recovery once the pandemic finally subsides. But YEP was here for Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath, and we’re here now, working with our community to build a future in which all young people have equal access to opportunity.
